Default P1381 Phantom code?

P1381-Cylinder Position Sensor Intermittent Interruption

Looked everywhere checked everything. No one has seemed to be able to fix this code. Guess they simply given up. But I refuse to do so.

So the story goes...

1997 Honda Civic Ex Automatic D16y8 265,000miles

On the freeway going 70ish. I hear a pop/backfire then the car loose power. Car cranks but doesn't turn over. Checked for spark. No spark. Towed it home. No spark so replaced the distributor. Car starts but now is throwing P1381 code. Thus begins my dilemma.

It seems to me that this code is too much for everyone. They've replaced the distributor. Code comes back. The alternator. Code comes back. ECU, but the code persist.

As for me, I've changed the distributor, cap, rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, alternator fuel filter, and gas cap(read a suggestion to replace it). Checked omh resistance at the distributor and at the ECU, all coming back ok or within spec. But still as I drive and orange CEL glow in my face challenging me.

Here is the downer for me as I have read "ALL" post with CEL/Code referring to P1381. All and I mean "ALL" seems to be unsuccessful in fixing this problem.

Now I know that with half a million members in this forum this is still the best place for DIY'ers to find solution for Honda owners.

So, my question is, has anyone ever gotten this resolved, and how?

i wouldn't have thrown all those parts at it. Did you consider the crank postion sensor i've heard of that throwing that code before.

So what you all are saying is fixing the distributor won't do anything? I had a code for the ignition coil and replaced it and it was a pain to put all back together and now it has the p1381 code so in gonna change my distributor cap and my distributor to see if it works

The P1381 CMP SENSOR A INTERMITTENT INTERRUPTION code just appeard on my dashboard. I just got it fixed. The repairman changed the wires, did a tune up and a changed the valve cover gaskets. It took him about an hour to fix it. My car has been driving more smoothly, the check engine light in no longer on and I am getting better gas mileage.

You might want to get the valv cover gaskets checked.
