Default Car gets hot but never overheats

Hey guys, my CRX with a D16a6 had no thermosat when I bought it, and took forever to get to operating temp. Now that I have one installed, the temp usually sits right below the "H" mark, which is way hot, but never reaches the mark. Sometimes it will go down to halfway, but standard temp is about 1/4 of the gauge. I ordered my thermostat from Rockauto, it's a BeckArnley. The standard opening temp is 172, fully open at 194. It is possible that I have one that is rated to open at a higher temp, thus causing my car to always run hot? Any help is appreciated.

Temp sensor is brand new. I had thought about replacing my fan switch, but since the fan was still working I left it alone. I will replace it in a few days. If that doesn't work I will check thermostat to see when it starts opening, and replace if it opens at a higher temp.

Does the fan cycle on and off with the car left to idle with the A/C off?

Sometimes, but not like it should. It is supposed to come on twice before reaching operating temp. But it doesn't come on until long after that.

Try removing the thermostat and heating it on the stove to see if you can get it to open before it hits boiling point.
