Default 98 mini me swap, doesn't run right!

Hey guys,

I recently did a y7 to y8 mini me swap in my 98 civic dx. Everything is in and ready to go, the car is all wired in and runs. But it doesn't run very well . . .

I scanned the car, I have no codes, it has oil, both o2 sensors, and coolant. I have also converted and cleaned the iacv. I did a compression test and it is 180 across the board. Timing is perfect on the belt side, but I still haven't timed the car on the distributor side.

But when I run the car, it idle surges pretty bad at idle, and the car doesn't seem to have all the power it is supposed to. The exhaust is kind of smelly too!!!

What could it be? Would timing on the distributor screw it up that poorly? Could it be bad o2 sensors?

Also, the plugs are pretty dark, and it is pretty boggy

Yeah I am using the y8 manifold and tb. I am also using the p28 ecu.

How do I calculate the tps? Also, could my o2 sensors be making the car run like this? Thanks for the help!

P28 is the wrong ECU.
Check the FAQ on the procedure on how to calibrate the TPS.

Check the TPS and also mechanical and ignition timing. The FAQ has links to the procedures on al of that.

I will look into adjusting the tps and getting the ignition side of the timing set.

If the tps and iacv were switched, wouldn't it throw a code?

Also, are the first and second o2 sensors the same? I didn't have a secondary o2 when I got the car so I just picked up an o2 sensor from a del sol that had the same connectors, could that be part of the problem.
