You don't really need a whole lot considering you're swapping the engines between the two cars. You'll have to swap the engine, transmission, axles, shift linkage (I believe) the ECU, wiring harness and I believe all the engine mounts are fine except for one. I can remember which one it is exactly off the top of my head. I think that about covers it.
any input on what tranny i should get? cause im gonna get instead of getting my friends cause its showing signs of failure and i dont feel like rebuilding it
b16 tranny? any other trannys that would complete the swap?

yes, the gearing is different. ls is longer, but they come cheap. itr's have come down in price, have similar gearing, a better fd and lsd. that is where id put my money, but any b series vtec hydro trans will work
Do it. Everything will swap over directly. All mounts are same. Take axles and swap them, unplug engine hwrness from firewall and swap over. Take ecu. Get same trans because the b16 trans is whats up. Get new motor mounts while at it since its a bitch to change when motor is already in and the t bracket should ckme from the b16. I pulled the b16 and dropped the d16. Pretty straight forward. Wish i wouldnt have but whatever

I dont understant this thread.
Hi, i own a d series del sol, my friend will give me a free b16 complete swap, he is selling his car and doesn't care if we trade swaps, his transmission is in bad shape....
OK...take the free swap, deal with it... and replace this "showing signs of failure" trans when the time comes or you have the money to do it.

agree! ! ! specially if your friends car came stock from dealer with the b16 theyre more valuable i believe
not an expert on del-sols but i do believe the 96 is obd2a and the 94 obd1 so u would need swap harness and buy 2 distributors or converter plugs!
"like i say this is what i believe not an expert but ill do a lil more research and let u know

the dumb idea is to swap motors, if trading cars is an option. Yes the 93-95 del sol's are obd1 and 96-97 are obd2. If there is anything broke, it won't be any different than fixing the OP's, body is the same for both. Also if the guy is his friend, the OP should know of most problems.
If you say so. But yea 94 is obd1 and 96 is obd2. You would need the ecu conversion plug. pulling the motor from a del sol is childs play so like i said idiotic to pay for title transfer and whatever else yall do in yalls county. Just swap and be good
Your friend is pulling your leg on this he is not going to just hand it over. If he was then why wouldn't he give you the complete change over..?axles, mounts, tranny and the ecm? Oh he wants to just trade engines only nothing else? and have nothing but useless parts and not have a running car? fuhhh outta herr dude
So much work for so little gain vs. buying your bud's car outright. Provided you get his original B16 del Sol (i.e., B16 is orig motor that came with the car), you keep a high resale value esp when it has all its original parts. Unless his needs a major amount of body work, I don't see how you would really lose. Swapping motors would really only be an option if buddy's B16 was a POS and you rescue the motor out of it. I guess what I'm saying is, before jumping head first into this idea, do the MATH first.
