Default 99 gsr cam question

I've got a 99 gsr with 247xxx miles. Cold air intake and skunk2 intake manifold. I'm going to be doing an fi build but not till after I rebuild the motor or buy a new one. Question is can I buy and install a turbo cam and run fine without it being turboed?

you dont need turbo cams. stock gsr cams make plenty of power with boost.

Really? That's awesome. Thanks. Another question. Ill be rebuilding the motor before I boost. Ill only be boosting prolly no mor than 10. Do I need to upgrade any internals for the boost?

the psi isn't important. cylinder pressure and hp are. if you get one of the new garrett GTX turbos, like a 3071 or 3076 you can make really strong hp numbers on low boost.

this is my old car the new owner put a gtx 3071 on.

engine finally went when the head lifted

in short if you're doing a rebuild for boost use a 4032 forged piston, better rods and install arp head studs

it's too easy to crack piston ringlands with cast pistons

Ok thanks. What's a good rod? And what about crank and bearing. Valve and springs. Do any of these new to be upgraded.

find somebody's build thread in the forced induction forum that's making the power you want and copy their build. it really is that simple.

forced induction forum would be a good place to start

or call myles at englishracing.net

he also posts here and could walk you through what to buy for a build. pistons generally mahle or supertech since they can be setup tighter than a 2014

rods, set of $200 manleys or eagles will keep up with the stock sleeves. as for valves buy all new exhaust valves, you can reuse your intakes, obviously have a valve job done and measure the guides to see if they also need to be replaced. use oem honda valves. their failure rate is just lower than a lot of aftermarket stuff.
