Default Brake pedal squeaks when releasing brakes

On my 98 Civic Cx, the brakes squeak whenever I release the pedal. It sounds as if its coming from under the hood and not the brake pedal itself.

Let it be noted that I did flush/bleed the brakes a week ago and the brakes work amazingly but the squeak it really pissing me off.

Any ideas?

OK after a thorough search of the forums, this seems to be a FAQ and all signs point ot the rear drum brakes.

Still doesnt make sense as the sound appears to be coming from under the hood. Either way ill check the drums and report back. Any other suggestions welcome

I had a 98 DX coupe that did that, and my current 99 EX coupe does it as well. It never caused me any problems, just slightly annoying. I assume something just needs lubed up a bit.

I had a Subaru when I worked there which did the same type of thing, that one was the brake switch...believe it or not.

Another issue I have seen on other manufacturers are squeeks from the pads where they meet the brake pad carriers.

GL.

My 00 civic was also doing this. Even when I was to pull up on the E-brake it did it. I didn't look into the problem but I did swap out my drums for rear discs and has been fine since.

don't replace anything. Tear down and inspect. Usually it's the contact points between the shoes and backing plates. Clean all off with water, blow dry with compressed air and apply a lubricant like white lith or antiseize. Manually adjust the brakes and carry on.
