Default piston to valve clearance on b20 vtec with b20z pistons

ok i have the 8.8 cr pistons in my b20 now and i want to put in b20z pistons (9.6:1) in my b20 when i do my vtec conversion (prolly with a b16a head)

basically will b20z pistons hit the valves with no advance of timing? ive been looking for answers for days now and i cant find anything for sure..

as far as claying i would but i dont have a head yet or pistons.. i just want to know if phk pistons will work before i order them

and yes i know the best route would be forged pistons but $ is an option here so i want to know if these pistons will work not your opinion on what would be a better setup.

From my understanding, when crvtec.com was up, they said you could advance/retard your timing like 2 degrees and be ok so I would think that at 0 degrees your safe.

Find someone with a crvtec with a stock block and ask what their timing is set to.

ive found some je pistons that are made for a b20vtec, with a b16 head...they have them in 10.5:1 and 12.5:1...and they are 106.75 each for both CR's...the site where i got the info is

http://www.raceeng.com

good luck!

dude, not to be rude or anything...but you should seriously try to do it right the first time...my friend has a ls/vtec and he didnt do it right, costing him ALOT more now, so maybe you should save for alittle while longer, it would be the best thing in the long run

like i said i just wanted an answer to my question. i understand the limmits of a motor... im not gona take my b20 to 9 grand and get pissed when it breaks... if you want to take advantage of the full potential of a b20vtec YES you do have to get forged pisotns and rods and prolly a girdle too just to rev to 8... i understand this.....

I have a B20VTEC with the 9.6:1 pistons. The clearance is fine as long as you dont advance your cam timing, and you can rev it to 7000 or 8000 rpm with no problems. However if you really want high compression pistons definitely get the je's.

well to be honest i was planning to go to 7500 since thats when peak power is anyway on a vtec head... (yes i know area under the curve..) this is with new pistons and rings with a fresh rebore and all new bearings and seals.... i feel this is safe so...

so thank you for your post about your experience i really appreciate it...

i would love to get some je's but i just dont have the $ right now so i got to make do
