Electric Super Chargers
I have a buddy who is thinking about getting an Electric Super Charger for his car for an easy HP gain. I have not really heard anything about these in the past and neither has he. We were wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for us so I can let him know if it is something to blow his money on or not.
it's an issue of scale.Sure, a supercharger driven by an electric motor will work, but it needs to be a very powerfull electric motor which will need a very large bank of batteries and supporting control hardware. this is all very heavy and very expensive. it has been proven to work on the drag strip with huge capacitors and expensive high-output electric blower motors. and it only works for 1/4mile. not practical. even the case of a drag car, you could do just as well with a 100 shot of nitrous and then drive the car home.

Yea the one that we found was on ebay and he was pretty amped on getting it I just didn't know if I was going to order one or not untill I figured some more out about if they actually work or not.
It could be more by now, so maybe buy a few of them to go with the electric junk
Even a small supercharger needs 50-100 hp to run. How are you going to power a 100 hp electric motor through a 10 ga. wire off of your battery? Not going to happen. Even 1-2 hp would be asking a lot, meaning something like that is only good for a less than 1 hp power increase.
