Default Electric Super Chargers

I have a buddy who is thinking about getting an Electric Super Charger for his car for an easy HP gain. I have not really heard anything about these in the past and neither has he. We were wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for us so I can let him know if it is something to blow his money on or not.

Is this post for real? If you haven't heard anything about them then how do you know about them in the first place. Google is your friend.

the idea isn't completely bogus. it's the cheapo, bolt-on type for sale from china that are the issue. it would be like me selling you a bolt-on bottle rocket claiming it will make your car go like a missle. it's an issue of scale.

Sure, a supercharger driven by an electric motor will work, but it needs to be a very powerfull electric motor which will need a very large bank of batteries and supporting control hardware. this is all very heavy and very expensive. it has been proven to work on the drag strip with huge capacitors and expensive high-output electric blower motors. and it only works for 1/4mile. not practical. even the case of a drag car, you could do just as well with a 100 shot of nitrous and then drive the car home.

I'm pretty sure the ones these guys are talking about are NOT drag strip application units. More like Ebay application.

i'm certain of it too. just wanted to differentiate between what they're looking at- the guts from a ladies hair dryer.. and a real electric super charger.

Might as well get a couple of those chips on ebay that add 15hp.

It could be more by now, so maybe buy a few of them to go with the electric junk

Even a small supercharger needs 50-100 hp to run. How are you going to power a 100 hp electric motor through a 10 ga. wire off of your battery? Not going to happen. Even 1-2 hp would be asking a lot, meaning something like that is only good for a less than 1 hp power increase.
