Default First build opinion?

This is my first build and im trying to figure out what direction i should take. I just disassembled a H22A4 the is in great shape. i figured to just do a basic rebuild rebuild gaskets, bearings, ect. only thing being upgraded is the cams, but a buddy is saying i may as well sleeve it now so that i dont have to worry about it later.

All of this sounds good but when adding it all up its gonna cost quite a bit for the sleeving, new mounts, h2b kit, and everything else to get it running(its bare, no im, header, alt). Car currently has on obd2 b18b.

Now im throwing around the idea of just getting rid of it and just find another b series to build rather it be a lsv, b20v, or a gsr. I dont mind spending the cash to build it right but all the extra things with the h just seems a little much for a first build. I dont have any goals with the build, just looking at getting a build under my belt.

Any ideas or thoughts that could help sway me, im in a stalemate on what to do.

He said to sleeve it because of the FRM sleeves can't be bored or honed, and if it has high miles on it the rings will never truly seat correctly. Even besides the sleeving I would still need everything to get the motor into the car, mated to the tranny, and running.

FRM doesnt have to be honed or oversized unless there are gouges in the walls.

I would sleeve it. I've always heard the weakest link on those h22's are the sleeves.

not true whatsoever. The sleeves themselves are actually very strong and do a very good job of moving the heat away from the cylinder.

you hear the sleeves being the weakest link because a lot of machinist will not touch them because they dont have a slow enough machine to hone them or they dont have the stones or they arent comfortable doing it.

the FSM explicitly states that it is unnecessary to hone unless there are gouges in the cylinder wall which can be felt with your fingernail.

The only part weak about the stock h22 is the piston's ringlands. They are thin and tend to buckle under extreme cylinder pressure, whether it be from someone boosting a high mileage engine or from detonation.

but the sleeves are NOT the problem.

frm IF WORN will have seal problems. period. They are known for smoking after rebuilds etc.

The cylinders look good, there is no scoring. So what are my odds that if it is rebuild its still gonna smoke. I would hate to sink all this cash into it and it still smoke. Again I don't care about the power its gonna make, but having it smoke will just annoy me and make me wish I would have went the other way. The only thing going for the h is that I have everything right now vs moving it and getting everything I need for a b.
