Okay so I got a jdm gsr trans I believe it's a 98 not sure tho. I have a lightweight flywheel and stage 3 or 4 clutch (guy I bought it off of couldn't remember)
So my problem is, at higher Rpms I cannot downshift into 3rd unless I let the Rpms drop or basically rev match way over what I need too. 3rd gear never grinds at all along with any of the other gears.

I've had the trans for over a year and its just started doing this


For an example if I'm cruising on the highway around 3 or 3 1/2 grand I can't go 5th-3rd without letting the Rpms drop basically to idle. Or when I'm in forth and heal-toe to 3rd I have to rev it up a lot more then needed to rev match it, and it will finally slip into gear.

I never grind gears or anything but I do shift hard if racing or backroading or whatever. Also I have no problem going from 2nd at 7200 rpm to 3rd, it only downshifting to 3rd from 4th or 5th. I'm already running gm sycromesh in my trans btw.

Any ideas? I don't know much about transmissions and its my daily so I havnt taken it apart to inspect anything. I'm sure I can do it but id like to gets some ideas of what to look for or what could cause this.

I guess that could be syncro failure ...the option is open the tranny and fix the problem..

 

I'm just gonna have to take the trans out and look at it. I also heard it could bet 3rd 4th gear sleeve? If that's the case I was gonna by a sycrotech 3rd/4th gear sleeve and carbon sycro kit. I'm not buying anything till I look at it, but what company's would you guys recommend?

 

I figured out that if I try to go to third once then pull it back into then try again it will go but still hesitates to go

It very well could be the sleeve but the only way u can find out is tear it apart.
