why are you needing to take the head off again? and why are you asking these questions this far into it?

you sound like another "well, i dont know what i'm doing but i'm gonna do it anyway, oops i'm stuck, i should probably ask for help" kids.

if you plan on fixing it, I would suggest that putting in a used engine would be the cheaper way to go.

there is a timing belt tensioner that relives tension on the belt so you can slide it off with ease. I also agree with doood you may have a garbage engine but still you easly could have found this out b4 you started taking things off GL with swapping in something else or even putting the head back on/

OP, you need to get a FSM before you even look at your car again. It'll have a full, detailed how-to for a full disassembly of your motor.

there is a factory service manual for free at a few places throughout the internet, it covers years 96-00 Honda civics, it has helped me through a lot of things on my car, including replacing the engine... I just searched on google for it.
