b18 build dilemma - no local tuners - go boosted or go all motor?
Trying to plan a build but guessing the town i live in is limited on resources. Wanted to build a B18 for boost but noone around here has a program to tune imports. Was going to go with hondata btw. In fact the last shops advice to me was to just forget about boost and throw some nitrous at it... WTF... So now the decision is keep planning the boosted motor, or switch plans and Go all motor? Throw some opinions at me....
I had a 99 VW Golf GTI (1.9 TDI) and replaced the turbo as it was due, it was a Garrett GT1749V and was fitted as OEM on about 20 different car manufacturers, made it very easy to source parts. Ever think of researching a suitable used turbo from a diesel car and making your own manifold?
My TDI had so much torque in low range, and when turbo kicked in it shot up through the revs, but the VTEC has a much higher redline and is a lot more fun...but going all motor will limit you severely!

Unless you're living on an island, which you didn't mention, I don't think you're looking hard enough or willing to travel far enough to get tuned.
boost or all motor you still need a tune. i dont see how that matters.
many tuners offer online tuning.

drive farther. my tuner is a lil over an hour away on a good day.
get a basemap for whichever build you decide and run it on that til you get there and have it properly tuned.
unless youre outside the us and on an island theres one somewhere close to you.

Get a good basemap and you should be fine, if you feel your are capable of tuning yourself. Doing a good job takes skill, but street tuning a safe map is not rocket science. That said, all motor is generally easier, as far as tuning is concerned.
Hell, I drove two hours to get to the best tuner in the state. There was a guy there that day with me who had driven 8 hours. Boost, get a base map, and use said base map to get you safely to a tuner. Short of living in North Korea, there's no reason you can't get to a professional tuner.

Didnt even think about still having to get it tuned after upgrading internals... Thanks folks.... I'll start looking in surrounding areas tomorrow...
