Default VSS problem. help

Ok so I have an 99 integra gsr (5speed) with a p28 chipped ecu and my speedo stoped working one random day;also throws code 17 witch is vss. ive been driving with no speedo for a while now and im sick of not knowing how fast im going or hitting vtec .

lately, ive been guessing by trying known working: ecu's, vss's, clusters, and fuses(fuses do not blow). IM tired of guessing and diagnose it to find the problem.

I also had tested the three wires on the vss. the black wire had good ground, the black/yellow had 12.4 volts and signal wire had 10.2 volts. I even cleaned the connectors.

my questions are, what els do I need do i need to test? what mite be the probelm? and what wire do i need to test on the cluster to see if i have a signal going to it.?

I don't imagine you'll be able to read your vss with a voltmeter. The teeth it reads give out a signal much like your ABS wheel speed sensors, which require an oscilloscope to read. Unelss someone had fun with your wiring, I'm sure you just have a bad wheel speed sensor

could just be in need of a new vss. pick n pull is a good place to start most likely no more than 20.00. and it wouldn't hurt to try are the wires "snug in the plug" ?

I know the voltmeter is not a accurate, but its all I have for it check it for now. thanks for the input. Ill test with an oscilloscope in my engine diagnostic class. the only thing is that i didnt want my teacher to see under my hood with all the little mods i have done to it but all well..
Ive had changed 3 different working vss that i borrowed from a couple friends with the same car.

Ill just check the wiring again and see if i see something fishy.

Use the meter to check continuity on the VSS signal lead between the VSS plug and the cluster, [and ECU/ECM, should be an orange lead at cluster and ECU/ECM may be a blue/white or orange at VSS plug.94

More times than not its just the contact points on the plug are dirty/correded.
