Hey guys, I've been browsing the forum for a long time trying to find a solution to my problem but I can't seem to find exactly what I need. I am currently running a b20z with a vtec GSR head on it in my 2000 CRV, i have an adjustable fuel rail, and am running the stock ECU. The problem I'm currently having is my check engine light is on and throwing a code that says the engine is lean, is there anyway I can fix this while still running the stock ECU?

 

Turn up the fuel pressure? Do you have a wideband? You're never going to get vtec if you use a non vtec Ecu.

 

I currently have a buddy club vtec controller in it so I am getting Vtec, I know that system kind of sucks but I'm dealing with it right now. I also have and adjustable regulator, so turning up the fuel pressure in theory should help clear this code?

 

Turning up the fuel pressure will add more fuel, making it richer (less lean). It's a terrible way of tuning though. If you're going to do this you should get a wideband so you at least know what's going on.

 

Thanks for your help, I've actually decided to just go ahead and run a chipped P28 on my crv. I'm also planning on purchasing a wideband when I get the money to go ahead a do all of this. My next question would have to be where do you think the best place to install a wideband on a crv would be?

 

I would install the wideband O2 where the Cat is. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge on your fuel rail or filter? If you do...what does it read? I'd check that out first before upping the fuel pressure just to be on the safe side.

 

close to the pre cat o2 sensor. theres room.

 

you may not necessarily be running lean. how does the car run? is it misfiring? are you getting any other codes at all? if the o2 sensor is reading inaccurately, it will throw a false lean code. and o2 sensors always fail lean.
another possibility is an exhaust leak upstream of the primary o2 sensor. this could pull oxygen in and give a false reading

 

I do not have a fuel pressure gauge though I know I should get one, the car isn't misfiring it is just running quite poorly I believe it has to do with the stock ECU running this engine. And there are no other codes being thrown just the code that says the engine is lean.

 

Get an OBD2 to OBD1 convertor and use a OBD1 ecu, which can be easily tuned to maximize your power. Also, it eliminates a lot of emission sensors which tend to limit tuning/efficiency from these types of builds on OBD2. Good luck.

One more question will a CRV run a OBD2B to OBD1 jumper harness with out problem or will I need to change some of the wiring?
