Icon2 PTE 6262 Compressor Cover Removal?

Hey guy's im getting ready to take the compressor cover off my Precision 6262 to get it powder coated, The turbo is still on the car, I have never had a compressor cover off before , Is it just a matter of removing the bolts on the backside and it pull's right off? Anything I need to look out for or be careful doing? Thanks guys

Basically
Just be sure the cover comes off and goes on straight or else you can damage the compressor wheel. Sometimes when they pop loose they do so at an angle, I cracked a compressor wheel when it happened too.

Not as hard as you think. just USE CARE. unbolt the retaining bolts and carefully move it FORWARD before you move UP..

Okay great, so shouldnt be a issue even with the turbo still on the car? Also to install it back on is same as removal? Nothing special to do reinstalling? Thanks.

Be extremely careful if its still in the car, and when putting it back on, make sure it is securely in place. check the wheel after you've place it, to make sure it spins freely. Not much more to say.

Make sure the o-ring seal is in place, else you'll need to seal it up with RTV

Maybe they way PRECISION has their backplates made to mate with the compressor cover. But a copper o-ring isn't standard on all turbochargers.

Only the Garrett GT3076R series and GT3071R. but not on standard Garretts, smaller GTX or Borg-Warner series including EFR.

If there's a huge leak its because the backplate isn't machined well to the cover. Rarely is it essential. But again, Precision may require them for whatever reason.

Precisely, normally the cover and backplate are precision fitment parts, so the act of simply bolting the cover down is enough to seal the compressed charge in the housing.

A few Garrett units, mostly those that are capable of very high pressure ratios (gt3071, gt30r, etc) have an o ring to provide a positive seal between housing and backplate

You'll also notice that the very large turbos, like gt40 and bigger have some sort of sealing method.. some use orings or v-band clamps to hold the housing to the backplate

The only thing to watch out for while doing this on car is cleanliness.. make sure no debris is present on the area where the turbo seals to the backplate

The boltsize will be a 13mm.
Also, I'd suggest scratching a mark into the backside before removing it to line up where the cover meets the backplate. This way when you go to put it back on you can just line that mark back up without having to worry about readjusting the angle.

The 6262 doesnt have an "o-ring" its machined to be a tight fit thus having no air leaks.

Up until about 2 hours ago I would have said the same thing. That was the first line of my previous edited post. I just pulled one apart to vband the compressor cover and low and behold...it was o-ringed. I've never had one here apart that had an o ring. Then again, this backplate also has a spot machined in it for a "tag" to go in it, which I've also never seen on a PTE unit.

Really ? I have had the cover on my 6266 off several times never noticed an oring or a groove for one. Strange maybe i just didnt pay attention enough. When i install a second wastegate on my manifold ill have to check that out to see if there is one on mine or not. i would imagine if there is on yours then there is on mine though

No, we've taken covers/housings off many 6262/6266 turbos for whatever reasons. This is the 1st one to have the o-ring that I've seen. You cant miss it really. When you loosen the housinig and clock it, it will usually spin freely. This one had resistance; caused by the o ring.
