Default 97 GSR swap in a 95 Dx coupe

traded my bike for a new project, got a 95 civic dx with 97 gsr and ls tran and what appears to be a spoon chipped p28 ecu. when i got it he said all i had to do was hook up the vtec and o2 sensor and the car would be fine.I have the OBD1 engine harness i believe, i cut and extended the o2 sensor from where the distibutor is and connected and its still idling all funny and stalling.

i was told to keep the obd1 engine harness, i know that you have to do some conversions on the alternator and injectors. the alternator looks like its been messed with but not the injectors?

with my p28 how do i know if its chipped for the gsr or a different motor?

this is really my first honda project such as this. so im completely dumb on the subject. any information would help alot!I have pictures but i cant post them? maybe because im on the probation period still? i know theres alot going on here, so hopefully i can just sort it out as i go

Well you might have a science project on your hands if you do not know exactly what is wrong. Is there any Check Engine lights? Is the car even running? Do you know what harness was used to wire up the 97 GSR motor?

yeah its running but barely. once it warms up and idling it will start to drop and eventually stall out. then theres also the rpms stoping at 4600 but i think if i've read correctly its because the vtec isnt hooked up.

the check engine light is on but i thought i read some where that the p28 doesnt have the hook up to tell?

from what i can tell its the OBD1 from the car itself. but i could be mistaken. im doing school for auto body and we have a 93 civic there so i took a look and it seemed like the same harness

First things first, every obd1 honda has a service check connector to jump and identify trouble codes that the ecm has stored. I would get the car free of trouble codes and diagnose from there. Post your codes so we can help you a bit more. From your questions it sounds like you dont have much if any experience troubleshooting drivability issues? U may want to take it to a shop that does this sort of thing>

I bet you its the Spoon Chip. POS setup, the guy didn't even know what he was doing and just wanted to get rid of it. I'm actually about to pick up a setup just like this in a week, can't beat Cheap!

boosted you are right, i dont have much experiance at all. but i do love learning even from trial and error. plus ive been in the military just got out and got me something to keep me busey. im in college and i have a family. i dont have a lot of extra money, and i live in colorado where i dont know many people. i would much rather do trial and error myself and learn, plus build my own. what i really want to do is redo everything. but until then i want to atleast get the motor running right so i can figure out what i need and what i can put off.

enough with that. heres what i got though. i pulled the codes, it gave me 1-oxygen sensor#1 and 21 vtec spool solenoid valve.. (which it repeated, is it supposed to do that or does it just stop?)

i extend the 02 sensor plug from the front of the motor to reach the o2 plug right before the cat. but yet to get a o2 sensor, so when i do that ill do a tune up also and see where it goes. checking the the spark plugs found some oil on the tips so i think that also may be part of it ...

For your 21 vtec solenoid code, check for continuity between Pin a4 at the ecu and your connector at your solenoid, most likely a wiring issue. As for your code 1, you do have a 4 wire o2 sensor wired up right? some of the dx models had a 1 wire o2 sensor which is not what your p28 is looking for.

I have the 4 wire hooked up..I need to go buy a o2 sensor and just replace it..I just wanted to make sure...do you think the gauge of the wire could have an effect?? its not tremendously big but it is a tad bigger if anything. as far as the vtec..I'm not even sure if the ecu has it..when I looked at it I noticed the 4 chips were missing.also noticed a spoon chip..I honestly don't know anything about this ecu..what its set to run or anything so for all I know the ecu is my main problem.. with that do you think I should invest in a virgin p28 or is there a way that's cheaper to configure it back to include the vtec..ill post pics of it when I figure out how that way I can get an opinion other than my own which isnt much :/
