I'm getting new o-rings for my IACV, and I was wondering if most people run them dry or not? It seems a thin film of something would help keep them sealing well and nicely for a long time? But I don't know if it would really help at all.

This pdf from Dow Corning says the "Dow Corning 111" can be used for rubber o-rings where they meet metal. Also, the Honda Service bulletin 99-030 (Recommended Materials) mentions it for
High-viscosity lubricant for rubber-to-metal and
plastic-to-metal contact. Also used for suspension
bushings and brake system seals.
However, since the shop manual doesn't say you have to use it, I suppose you don't. It is probably a better grease for moving parts.

Yes, I just decided I don't need it. I hope this rambling has not bored you as much as I bored myself.

Yes you should always lube orings. Nothing like tearing a new oring when you're putting something back together. Or finding you tore it after its back together and leaking.

I've always just used a little engine oil.

Note to self: don't read Honda-Tech at 1 AM and giggle like a sleep-deprived idiot at thread titles...even if I probably couldn't help it otherwise
On a serious note, I don't see a problem in lubing o-rings...cuz torn o-rings are...dammit, I can't type this with a straight face!

I've lube every oring I've ever replaced. It's so you can slip it into the hole without it tearing. Sometimes I lube the hole too before I slip it in, depending on how tight it is.
