Default Loud Blower Motor

Hey all, I have a 99 civic LX and everytime I have the heat or ac on there are there is a loud noise coming from under the passenger where the floor board.

Can I lubricate a part in it or should I just replace the whole blower motor? It makes a growling noise.

Take out the blower motor and inspect (3 screws under the blower housing). Often times leaves and other debris get caught on the impeller. The blower motor itself is a PITA to disassemble. it is more likely that you will break something inside before you get to the bearings.

Can you describe the noise? Above ^^^ user is correct that leaves and crap get in there, but I've also had a case where a NEWER blower motor had noisy brushes on the motor and caused an annoying ticka-ticka-ticka noise. Aggravating.

have the same issue with mine. took it apart found leaves and the like in there. cleaned it all up and still makes the same noise just going to call it loose brushes and worn out bearings. headed to the pick apart for a good used one.

Sounds like leaves or something similar... Description of sound will help diagnose your problem

Or maybe record it and link to a sound file?

This is your car, or pretty much sounds like this? I have not dealt with this before, but imo it sounds like a bearing and not leaves. But why not remove it and find out if it is debris or not? If not, get one at j-yard.

Yup, leaves got into mine and made a ton of noise. Took it out and cleaned it from debris and it was much better.

Remove the motor and see what is wrong.Just 3 screws on the outer circle and a connector and your done in 10 minutes or less. Disregard the 2 screws on the motor itself.

Bearing noise from my experience. Both mine and my bro's 98 Civic did this. Reaplced them with known working units.

Well I took out the blower motor out and turned it on and the fan was quiet... it only makes the noise when the blower motor is installed in the car????

Any suggestions?

Start looking for crud on the inside. Get out the Shop Vac and go to town.

What did you end up doing to fix this? currently have the same problem where it spins freely and then once screwed into place grinds on something inside.
No debris
