Default "3 stage" d15b + cvt in Ej1?

Alright guy's, I know Im going to get flamed for asking a question about a non manual transmission, and most likely a D series question, and possibly going from obd1 to obd2, but I need to ask.

I have an Ej1 with zc vtec (d16z6) and m24a auto trans and p28 ecu. Car and everything is obd1, for now, so no worries on inspection etc.

I KNOW it is possible to do automatic B16 swaps, auto B18 swaps, auto f/h22 swaps, and possible to put a D16 vtec automatic in a non vtec D16 auto car.

Now, I dont really want a 5/6 speed manual, nor a B or H or K or J series swap. What I REALLY want is a very fuel efficient 4 cyl automatic. I know I could buy a 96-00 Civic Hx with d16y5 vtec-E engine and cvt allready in the car, but I'd rather do this in my Ej1 instead of buying a new car.

If I were to buy a jdm D15b "3 stage vtec" engine (12v vtec-e, 16 valve, 16 valve vtec), WITH matching cvt/multimatic transaxle WITH matching p2j (I believe is the correct ecu code), could it be made to work correctly with custom mounts and custom wiring? (almost all swaps would require new mounts and a little wiring anyways)

I do not plan on doing anything to this possible engine except maybe a cheap intake, therefore no need for a chippable obd1 ecu.

Is this possible if I were to buy d15b with matching cvt with matching p2j ecu? ALL I am looking for is better mpg while staying automatic in my Ej1.

The CVT mounting is COMPLETELY different. Is it theoretically possible? Sure, but so is dropping a BMW M-series motor in a Civic. You also need to look at the cost of the swap. In the life of that car, you will NEVER pay off what it would cost you in parts and labor to make the swap work.

For the 3 stage vtec, one of my friends used a stock p2j with an apex'i vtec controller. The primary 12v-16v solenoid was engaged with the vtec controller, 3rd lobe solenoid with the ecu.

As for the cvt trans...good luck!

If you want "very fuel efficient" you should be going with a MT transmission anyway. Like, the one that's mated to a 3-stage VTEC D15B/D15Z7 would be ideal.

Here's a good read for you: http://www.civic-eg.com/causeforalar...VTEC/index.php

pick up a d15z1, it is better than the y5. mate to z1/cx manual trans= mpg champ.

^ He's asking about the D15Z7, not the Y5. Z7 >> Z1 ... more HP, amazing fuel econ, but not available in N/America.

To answer the OPs question. No. The mounts aren't such a huge deal, but the wiring is. It's not just a little extra wiring. Some very, very major wiring needs to make that swap work.

If it makes you feel any better those CVT transmissions were absolute junk, they didn't hold up well at all. As has been said if you really want good mileage out that car put in a VX engine with matching 5 speed transmission.
