A friend of mine has a 94 civic EX with 1.6L vtec, had no computer we have 2 laying around but their P08 (JDM 1.5 vtec) and a P72. He's running the P08 right now but its an auto ECU and his is car is 5 speed so hes throwing the auto trans solenoid code. It runs fine but doesn't seem to have vtec. Could the auto ecu be causing vtec not to function. Also we're thinking of trying the P72 but he might get a knock sensor code or something and it probably will run like crap but who knows correct me if I'm wrong.

 

If I remember correctly the auto trans solinoid CEL will disable VTEC.

BTW, converting the ECU to manual takes a few minutes if you know how to solder well.

Best bet, have him get a manual P28 like he should have.
