b16a1 build
Looking to better my motor don't know a whole lot about motors but I know what I want and that's not a turbo. I just want a good running, and sounding everyday driver with a litlle bit behind it. Right now its a stock b16a1 nothing internal done just a couple bolt-ons. Looking for someone to recommend the next thing I should work on. Trying to do a mild budget build.
Let's start over. I recently bought an 89 si hatch with a b16a1. I have done nothing to it and I'm on here trying to get advice on which would help me get it to where I want it as cheap as possible without cutting corners. I would like to achieve around 250 hp. Without boost. Looking to start with about a 3 grand budget but I'm sure it will grow this really isint the issue though. Let's start with what I know and that is I believe its got a low idle and it seems to rev high when I'm driving. Also when driving at a constant speed such as on a highway or back road without much stopping it will sputter sometimes but will stop when I give it more fuel. Where do suggest I start doing my research. Is this still too vague
Should I check timing, iac valve, how do I know the person before didn't try to tune it and has it messed up. I need to know what I'm looking for so I can look.
If youre looking to make 250whp all motor, you're gonna have to build the **** out of it. Basically no where near a mild build like you stated you wanted to do. That power goal is more easily achieved with turbo than all motor.
Thanks for the help but you have been next to helpless. Instead of telling me what I can't do tell me what i can do. If you are so knowledgeable then stop wasting my time with BS replies. I'm not catching an attitude as you said before I just don't have time some backyard mechanic to get on me when all I'm trying to do is learn about my motor so instead of hating or whatever your doing either help or shut the Hell up.

Instead of asking the same ambiguous questions that have been asked and re-asked over the last decade, maybe try and actually SEARCH for the answers that are already out there. Considering you don't even know how to change an axle I would say that would be the smart thing to do.
If you don't even know that 250hp isn't a mild build, you have much reading to do. Stop asking to be hand held and educate yourself.

With $3,000 you need to buy a QSD kit and an H/F series motor.
Get that swapped in and get back to us.
Starting an "N/A build" with a b16 and $3000 is like going out to dinner and forgetting your wallet.
I spent about $7,000 in parts for my H2B setup and I'm putting down a pretty respectable 207whp on a stock engine.
Just to give you an idea how far $3,000 goes towards 250 whp in the N/A world.

I would recommend a B20V build, or you can invest $3000 in an ITR long block and build from there.

250hp on n/a b16a? no....you could try building an lsv, but that requires a lot of homework on your part and to really know what your doing. Honda's aren't really that "fast" at least without the "cash". a turbo can go a long way but your engine won't be able to without a tune, just my 2 cents, good luck.
