1998 pcm/ecm interchange w/1997
What purpose do you have for wanting to exchange ECUs? As has been stated you can swap identical ECUs between each other.
If your thought is that you can simply swap an ECU from a car that's producing more power than your's is currently, then you're wrong.
it's a 1997 civic ex im getting code pcm internal circuit failure the dude down the street has a pcm he got from a junk yard off 1998 civic he didn't use, but doesn't know if it was an ex. They look and hook up the same and the first set of numbers match mine (37820) but the following # don't.

List ALL of the numbers. Those don't help. You can only swap in a P2P. And it can only be a P2P from a 5-speed if you have a 5-speed, auto if it's an automatic.

Technically you can run any ECU of the same OBD and it will start. Running well? Not so much. YOu can probably get away with a DX ECU but you won't have VTEC.
