Default engine swap question

I was going to rebuild my z6 engine in the summer, but I think it just kicked the bucket, so I have to swap it as I need two DD's. MY question is this DD is an auto, can I remove the engine and leave the tranny in the bay and bolt on the new swap? I have read that for manuals is a PITA, but very few lines reference that autos is okay to do but I have not found any real information. Any thoughts? Can it be done? Thanks.

you should be able to. unbolt torque converter from flex plate and you should have enough room to remove the motor.

its me on my own, in Long Island weather and no garage. I have to work in stages, so it may be easier for me rather than to get under the car and remove all that crap. I don't know maybe i will pull the whole thing I just wanted to know from folks who know if I had that option, thanks guys.

It is not any easier. Lining up the shaft to the motor by yourself is hard as hell. A dumb *** shop did it to my friends car. They also messed up his mount leaving the tranny hanging so if you do attempt put a jack under the tranny.
