I'm new to Hondas after just getting a 94 civic from my brother to save on gas. I have a 94 civic with 220k on it. I just put a new radiator in it a couple months ago due to a craked plastic on the old one. A couple of days ago my check engine light came on And I came up with a code 6( coolant temperature) I just barely changed the thermostat and it is still coming on. My temperature is fine the needle is just a little below half way. I do have to drive the car to get it up to normal operating temp because if I just let it idles the gauge is just above the cold line.
I should state that the bottom radiator hose does not get warm but the top does. This doesn't worry me much because the radiator is new and is probably working great combined with the 5 degree( yes that's Fahrenheit) temperature outside.

Any ideas on what could be going wrong? I'm not overheating but it just worries me to have something throwing a light and not know why.

Sounds like the thermostat is not installed correctly or is stuck open. Double check it.

Code 6 is caused by a separate problem in the ECT sensor circuit. It is located below the distributor and has 2 wires. Is it unplugged?

 

Ill go check the ect. If that is unplugged though would t my temp gauge I. The dash not work since it wouldn't have a signal?

 

The 1-wire ECT sensor below the distributor is the sending unit for the cluster temp gauge.

Code 6 is for the 2-wire ECT sensor below the distributor and its circuit that talks to the ECU.
