93 VX Hatch D15z1 to D16a6
Looking to change out my d15z1 for a d16a6 was wondering if i could keep my d15z1 transmission and possibly putting it on the A6, would that work?? or should i just keep the a6 transmission and do the complete swap
I know from experience, the CX/VX transmission is terrible when used on a different engine. Has to do with the power band and the gearing not matched well. IF it's all you got, it will work though.

everyone is retarded, a6 has a cable trans. you will have to reuse your vx trans OR buy a different sohc hydro trans. go y8 or z6 for less shitty gearing. run a p06 ecu, b7 distributor and alternator, or rob the z1 alternator. distributor from the z1 will not work. reuse your vx linkage, axles, mounts, etc. try to pick up a 92-95 dx/lx harness, the distributor plug is different on the z1 and it also has a 5 wire o2 plug. the a6 harness will not work either.

no. the b7 distributor will go right on the a6 head, and the dx/lx harness will plug directly into the b7 distributor and the rest of your obd-1 stuff. youll need injectors as well, unless you want to reuse the z1 ones.. im pretty sure theyre oddballs tho, might have slightly less flow than the rest of obd1 d series. do not reuse the z1 intake manifold, it has an egr valve. your best bet would be to find a complete used d16z6 intake manifold, it will have all sensors/injectors you will need and will go right on your a6 head.
I thought we told you to keep the VX motor in it. You really are best off to keep the VX unmolested. Resale value is remarkably high.
PS. If you've got the itch to start tinkering with mechanical stuff, find a different model to work on. USDM CX trim, for example, have a boat anchor as a motor.
this is why h/t sucks. the op did not ask about resale value, your personal opinion on his swap, or any of the other bs posted in this thread. he asked in a nutshell how to make it work. the a6 is a solid platform, and it isnt like he cant throw the z1 back in to sell it later.
You may be giving him good advice, but so am I. This is a discussion board where many different kinds of advice should be encouraged. OP in this very thread asked for opinions on where to sell his complete VX, which opened up a whole different can of worms than the original post. OP also has another thread which boiled down essentially to "should I keep my high mileage D15Z1"? Resounding response was 'yes, if it's healthy', and this is echoed in this thread.

If you still decide to do the swap I am looking for some parts for a VX, or if any body knows where to find, I am swaping a DX to VX for my commuter car just for the better gas mileage.
