94 Accord EX Still Overheating
hey guys i bought a 1994 honda accord ex that was overheating due to the fact it had a blown head gasket. So I swapped in a jdm motor changed the water pump, changed the fan switch, thermostat, Coolant etc... and the car runs fine when im driving on the freeway but once i start driving on surface streets example: idling at a red light the temp gauge likes to creep up around 3/4. im kind of running out of options on this one. i believe my heater core is blocked due to the fact that the heater doesn't work idk if that could be the problem. or the only other thing i can think of is maybe the fan control module Idk your guys help or opinion will be appreciated
Had the same problem on with my B16 recently. Try bleeding the coolant system. Make sure its free of air bubbles. If the problem still exists drill a small hole in your thermostat like i did. Read this post http://forums.corral.net/forums/svt-...erheating.html if your not sure where to drill or why you would need to drill a hole . Good luck
I am not sure that 3/4 is all that bad. If it's hot, and in traffic. I really don't trust the Honda gauge and I have installed an aftermarket one which gives me a much better reading. But it depends on what thermostat you have and the condition of the cooling system. Try some of the easy things before you start throwing money at it. (I have a Mishimoto radiator, new in the box, which has been sitting in my garage for two years because the Honda radiator turned out to work just fine.)
Make sure you're using a Honda OEM thermostat. If you are, make sure you install it with the jiggle valve that is on the thermostat facing straight up. If not then air will have a problem getting past it like it's supposed to. Also, I assume you are cracking open the bleeder valve when you are filling up the radiator ?
Couple of thoughts, in terms of sequence, since I had the same issue as you:
Hope it will help, good luck and keep us posted.
- Bleed the system through the bleeding valve and make sure no air is present, you can try by squeezing the radiator hoses too while taking off the radiator cap.
- Fans are coming
- Thermostat
Hope it will help, good luck and keep us posted.
