ls/v db1?
so i was thinking of doing an lsv i have a 91 db1 with b18b1 b16 tranny and i/h/e and its still obd0 i was woundering if i could do an lsv with obd0. not to sound cheap but im low on funds lol. i have a good price on a b16 head. any thoughts?
Here's a quick breakdown:
ARP rod bolts - $50
ARP head studs - $150
New LS Head gasket - $60
Bearings - $100
New P72 water pump - $80
New P72 oil pump - $120
New P72 timing belt - $50
Complete used P72 head - $400
Retrofit parts (i/e conversion kits) - ~$150
So just in parts the swap already costs about $1200, and you haven't got an intake manifold, throttle body, intake arm, header or catback exhaust system, which could run anywhere between several hundred and well over a thousand dollars. That pushes the total to around $2000.
Add another $500 - $1000 for some sort of tuning solution, and the machining costs for shotpeening the rods, resizing the rod journals, honing the cylinders, balancing the engine, upgrading the pistons, and retrofitting the head (which has a material cost as well). There are some other costs if you get a block girdle or install oil squirters, and you'll also have to figure out how to wire the engine and route all the necessary fluids. And none of these costs include a transmission upgrade.
You can see how run-of-the mill LSV builds can easily push $5k.
