Default aluminum drum upgrade for ef hatch

Morning guys. I have a 91 civic DX that im going to be replacing the brakes on. I would love to replace the rear drums with crx aluminum drums, mostly just to have said i did, but they're really hard to find. In searching, ive seen a few times that i can use insight aluminum drums. Anyone have any experience with this? Is there a particular year that will work or work better? Anything else that need to be swapped? Ive only found two posts that mention it, and neither go into detail. Thanks in advance guys!

I looked forever for those 1st Gen 85-87 ? CRX HF aluminum drums. I finally found some about a year ago at the junkyard! They fit perfect on my 91 Hatch they just slid right on. They are a lot lighter and can be polished if you want that bling factor...Hard as hell to find though. Heard insight drums might be the same but cant confirm?

Check oreily autoparts website look up 86 crx hf under brakes. Shows a drum that cost $130 looks the same as oem ones? Not sure if they are aluminum? You could always buy then return?

Correct they slap on.

I saw a set on ebay a bit ago go for an absurd price. I'd like some back ups.

I think I'm just going to take the plunge and buy the Insight drums. I'll report back with a final answer as to how it turned out. It's gonna be a few weeks, lol.

Let us know how it goes! I'm sure many people are curious but never tried it...Can you return them if they don't fit?

Last I checked, the drums I see on some 88-91s are 200mm. The Insight (and 1st gen HF) drums are 180mm on the inner diameter. Tyson, would you be so kind as to measure the inner diameter of the spare aluminum drum you have?
