hello everyone, im new to this site and am deeply in need of some insight.
I hit a rock the other day on the fwy, pretty big. my.car was to low to avoid it and it hit my
oil pan and my gas tank. causing them to both leak. as soon as I hit it
my gas pedal stopped pumping gas to the engine . the pedal feel light now. and it wont start.
I herd of a inersia switch or fuel pump.shut off switch? car cranks but wont start. I have a 96 civic dx all stock. please help

The gas pedal is only attached via a throttle cable mounted way up in the engine bay and connects to the throttle body. That's the only thing physical that would change the "feel" of the gas pedal so start there for that issue.
As for your leaks, fix those. I'm willing to bet when you look under there the damage will be obvious.

Thats it in a nutshell..
If you dont have fuel or oil flowing you dont have a moving vehicle.
Time to climb under there and take inventory of what you need to fix.

That same thing happened to me. 120 miles from home on the interstate and hit a massive pothole. My car continued to run, the oil leak was pretty bad tho. Got it towed home and up on a lift and found that it messed up the oil pan, oil pump, rear main seal, and cracked the block by the driver side motor mount. I hope yours is not as bad as mine was. I would take the car somewhere where you can get a good look at the bottom of that motor asap. but i would bet that the pedal issue would be with the throttle cable too.
Don't even try to start the engine until the oil leak and fuel leak are repaired and the engine/transmission is full of oil.
The throttle pedal issue seems at this point to be the least of your concerns.

I checked the throttle cable and it still moves under the.hood when the gas.pedal is pressed. I dont think thats the issue. the hole is visible on the gas tank. small enough to fix but big enough to leak a good amount. the oil pan hole isnt visible is more of a scruff and leaks out slowly but surely. I plan to fix them, but could the rock.have tripped a wire in the fuel pump or does my.model have an inertia switch.that.cuts off fuel so the car.dont.blow up when in a accident?
The hole in the fuel tank has created a fire hazard. Fix that first.
When done, start here:
When you turn the key from off to ON(II):
1) Do you hear the fuel pump prime/run for 2 seconds (low humming noise)?
2) Does the CEL turn on and then off after 2 seconds?

btw DEFINTALY read that first link i posted. guy had the same issue as you, ended up being a rubber stopper on one of the pedals. (which would go good with you saying the pedals felt light) i think RonJ@HT pointed that out to that guy as well

okay I will check the.rubber thing tomorrow in the light. and a friend told me it could be.the oil.sensor? no oil in.the engine due to the leak makes it not turn on to save the motor from getting.damaged?
