02 Civic Auto Transmission slips
Any answers for a 02 Honda civic ex automatic trans starts off from stop strong but after 2nd gear it starts slipping rpm revs higher and higher and speed slows after complete stop it starts strong but as soon as it hits around 40 mph it starts slipping and rpm increases even worse on uphill until you stop then goes again same cycle also check engine light is on is the throttle position sensor sound like the problem. The fluid looks good and is at normal level when warm.
Sounds like you have a bad second gear hydraulic circuit or a clutch failure. Any reputable shop can test the line pressure on the clutch circuits to verify.
When you put it in D, from a stop, and pressing the brake hard, and mashing the gas, does the engine RPM rise and then hold? If so it sounds like an isolated problem with that particular gear. If it continues to rise above 3000rpm I would question the oil pump output.
Are there any trouble codes indicated? With a failure like that a code should be set indicating incorrect gear ratio due to the slippage.
