Default Best Way to Remove Paint from Engine Block/Head

Cross post from Paint/Body:

The title says it all; what is the best way to strip the paint from the head block? The previous owner painted the longblock black (and did a subpar job; it's flaking and generally looks awful). Can I just tape up sensors/etc and spray the longblock with Aircraft Stripper™? TIA

If the paints flaking, a pressure wash or steam cleaner might do the trick as well

Aircraft stripper does a great job on paint but kiss your gaskets goodbye. I'd keep it away from electrical wiring, too.

Buy a cheap sandblaster, the kings that hooks up to a regular air hose, I would tape up anything you don't want messed up with some aluminum tape

Do not sand blast the motor in the car. In fact don't sand blast any motor you ever plan on using. Media blasting is different story. Pressure washing, paint thinner, wire brush are the way to go for a clean job.

Aircraft stripper is easy to use, brush it on wait 30-45 min. Clean off. Use a heavy degreaser like purple power from walmart or home depot works the best, for the crappy "green products" but its the best.
