should the oil pump spin free if still on engine. 97 honda prelude

my engine balance shaft blew out and i want to make sure its the oil pump that caused the problem before i take it off

to emphasize, your crank has a notch in it which lines up with the same notch on the oil pump. thus if one spins, the other spins.
