Just trying to figure out what would be best. Asking for some input.
Presently I have an s300 and wanting knock control (fuel here is shady at best)
Do I add a J&S Safeguard??? or get an AEM and add a bosch knock unit?
Overall, the cost difference after selling my S300 wouldnt be that much, however I am looking for the best out of the two. I am aware OEM OBD 1/2 knock control is not praised by any means, so using a knock boarded ECU is a waste of time.
Present build. Daily Driven 1.6 el. D16z6, Wiseco 8.5/1, Eagle Rods,2860rs w/wg44 .72 exh, stock head with minor porting
Will push the 300 mark, just want some peace of mind.
Thanks for the help,

JS is the least hassle. JS has headphone support (important). Headphones/trained human ear is most accurate - can datalog thru a AN1/2 in on Hondata
AEM has a steep learning curve; no narrowband oxygen sensor support. supports stock knock sensor, which only good up to 5000rpm, due to 2 ms resonance. can tune knock response thru software
U need an adaptor for a flat response KS (8mm mounting hole vs M10 x 1.25 stock hole)

My last tune I did through Virtual Dyno and s300 logs. Since I'll be bumping up the power this year, just looking for a safety margin. I have a hard time trusting people with my car, and since I don't know of any reputable tuners in my area, makes me even more hesistant. I'm in Nova Scotia. If anyone can point me to someone who won't blow up my car...that would be appreciated. I'n not a rich man, so engine failure would be catastrophic for the next season.
thanks.
thanks.
The proper method for tuning a vehicle does not include FINDING when and how to make a motor knock.
I use KnockSense with a Bosch sensor. It's a passive system meaning it wont retard timing like the J&S does but you can use it for a warning light and accurately log knock with any EMS.

Do you have a pt# for the bosch sensor muckman?
I'm going to be doing some street tuning, why wouldn't I want to use a knock sensor?
Instead of pulling over at night and checking plugs knock sensors are the way to go right?

Say the vehicle is finely tuned for pump gas and race gas. Then you got to the track and put in race gas and load the hi boost map. You get unlucky and have bad or under spec gas and you were WOT. It knocks and I would think human reaction no matter how good will not react the like J&S can it can pull timing on individual cylinder. J&S reportedly have saved many people's motors...

For the price you can't beat it.
