Default Need Help/advice Honda tech members

Ok so I received some pretty bad news today but I want a second opinion. My accord is currently in the shop with a family friend he fixed it up a bit it didnt have power before (acceleration was very bad) and had a major oil leak but he fixed it. Now he is saying its still blowing white smoke but has power and my motor is gonna go soon. I've spent too much money on the car to just let it go and not get anything for it so I was gonna attempt to rebuild te motor longtime further down the road (it will be my first build ever and a new experience). I haven't seen the car in a while it's been sitting in his shop I wanted to build the motor to handle turbo but now looks like I need to rebuild it in general. I was gonna see if the mechanic would leave the car in the back of his shop and I just go over there in my spare time and take the motor out and start the attempted build so for a first time thing should this be something I attempt? I mean if I really bump into something I can't handle I'm sure my dads mechanic friend would help me out but I really wanna attempt it myself.

Any feedback or tips would be appreciated including sites I could find parts to rebuild the motor for a good price. My funds right now are low because I'm also funding my supra to be fixed but income tax is around the corner.

Basically I'm asking should I attempt this build? Or is there something else I can do about the smoking problem? I always like to do a lot of research on things before I attempt them I've watched videos on how to take apart the motor to get to the block etc. and plan on doing a lot more if I attempt this. Also my car is a 1993 Honda accord ex wagon with a f22a1 which is another reason it's hard to give up because I hear it's one of the best flowing motors and good for turbo and a wagon would make a good sleeper. Plus my interior is mint but it's auto transmission.

Go for it if you have the time, money, and a place to do it. Doing this in your spare time means taking a lot of pictures so you don't forget where everything goes. Plastic baggies and a sharpie are a must.

Thanks for the input I'm kinda excited about it and I have the money to buy a rebuild kit but I kinda wanna go forged internals and turbo set up but that has to wait till taxes come in. I will definetly have a thread up with pics of progress and hope my fellow Honda tech members support me and help out. As for a place to do it I still have to talk to my dads Mechanic friend about doing it at his shop. And what's the sharpie for if you don't mind me asking? Also I work in a auto part store so that should be a plus for me If I need anything

Use the sharpie to write on the baggies what's inside and where they go
