Icon6 Speedometer off by 10 MPH...

my wife had a new cluster put in and the mechanic of an idiot told her that it caught on fire by it self, then the RPM gauge is off as well and the light for the gas doesn't go on when low. Can any body help me out?

Take it back to the mechanic and have him put in a cluster that doesn't combust upon installation.

Spontaneous combustion of a cluster?
If the mechanic replaced it with a( new) one then a warranty is implied here.
Especially if it was new.
Take it back and have him re replace it with an even newer one.

You could have done the work yourself for nothing and it would be working right now.

To clarify; did the new cluster ignite when she started the car, or did the old one burn then get replaced with a cluster that isn't working properly?

I have to agree. It takes longer to warm up the car to drive to the mechanic than it does to swap the cluster yourself.

So why are we NOT taking it back to the mechanic that screwed up the install in the first place?

Don't tell me the idiot installed the cluster while the key was in the ignition. I would not even let him look at my car. It my self-combust upon viewing.

I can't take it back to that mechanic cause if I take it I'm fighting and my wife took it a long time ago; while I was on deployment.

I feel the same way guys trust me, I wish I had the answer for this idiot that worked on my ride and I would of told him to fix everything before me taking my car this way. SO!!!! rule of thumb for anybody out there: don't let your significant other do changes to your car you don't want done, keep your list of things to do to your self and only yourself.

Go to a local junkyard.
Pull new cluster for next to nothing.
Go home.
Disconnect battery.
Remove 4 (possibly 6?) screws.
Slide out old gauge cluster.
Remove electrical connector (3 I believe but can't recall for sure).
Reconnect in reverse order.

Have gauge cluster that works and doesn't ignite.

Question. Was the speedo & tach off BEFORE you replaced the cluster? Answer this and you answer your own question. And maybe find out what actually caught fire, hm?
