Icon2 Are These Tubes Necessary?

I`ve seen other sohc`s without these tubes. I was wondering, will I cause any damage or issues if I removed it? It`s an older pic, please don`t flame lol.

I`m talking about the ones circled in white:

I know not tech related, but I just want to get an answer or two before you lock it.

you can get rid of the metal tubes and replace with rubber..

the one the goes from the inlet maifold to the IACV is coolant
as above replace with just rubber hose to get rid of the metal tube if you want

the one that comes from the Valve cover to intake tube is a breather
(can go to a catch can but if stock not worth it)

How would I go about eliminating the breather tube? Block it off with a rubber plug?

And the one that goes from the IACV to the inlet mani, I can just get a rubber tube of the same diameter?

You could cap them off, but then there would be no where for the air to go (mostly important for the valve cover, not sure if you're even concerned about that). Back in the day we used to put little breather filters on them.

As for the coolant tube you can try to locate some sort of preformed line at your local parts store, otherwise generic straight tube will work but will kink at harsh angles.

Honestly, I forgot about the valve cover pressure. I might as well throw on a small filter on there.

Replace coolant tube with all rubber line and cap off intake, add little breather filter. Be warned they aren't emissions legal in most states.

Car is registered in the state of Illinois, so no inspection required

That`s why I said I was going to put on a small breather filter...

Cool. Do it. Will cost you less than $10 for a ft of hose and a filter. While your at it clean that bay and paint the valve cover.

The little filter won't build as much pressure as having it hooked up the way it is. Just my $.02

Like I said, the bay is cleaner now that when that pic was taken. The cover is also painted, just need to repaint and clear it in the spring.

But glad I know about that. Just wasn`t sure if there were any issues in me removing it.
