b20 vtec timing w/o lower cover
I changed the water pump on my b20vtec and now I need to set the timing. The cams have not moved since taking it apart but the crankshaft turned while I was removing and installing the timing belt. So I need to get the crank set at tdc but I don't have the lower cover to get it aligned. I set it pretty close by pulling cylinder 1's sparkplug and letting an extension ride the piston until it hit its peak but I was told this was not precise enough. How can I get my crank spot on tdc? Also heard that markings on pulley can't be completely trusted because the pulley can twist some, what I have now:
