how to i set ignition timing without timing marks?
when i bought my crx it had a b16 in it and it's missing the timing belt cover with the marks on it. it also has an aftermarket crank pulley that i can't seem to find any marks on either. what's the best way to set my timing?
take out #1 plug, put a long screw driver on the piston and judge top dead the best you can then mark the crank/cover wherever you like with whiteout
i cleaned off the aftermarket crank pulley and found the marks then repainted them. then i set to TDC and made a mark on the side of the valve cover that lined up with the TDC mark on the pulley. jumped the service connector, started the car, then set the timing to my new mark on the valve cover. hopefully it's straight, i had to advance the distributor all the way to get it to line up with the mark i made.
can i do a lot of damage is it's advanced a little too much?

alright, so then i'll know where 0 degrees is. i guess it won't be possible to do it accurately huh?

I would get a stock timing cover and a stock balancer, and set the timing. After it's set correctly, if you want you can swap the after market balancer on. Just my .02
