Stranded at work...again with other rex this time
As title says, I find myself waiting for my wife to make the 45 min ride out here to get me...My calipers are stuck on my crx so I'm driving hers, which has been down more than up since we got it. Ok, it's been needing o2 sensor as it has had a code 1 since I got it and been running rich, but I checked the timing (because I borrowed a timing light for my dizzy replacement on my car) it was off, so I set it. But with the hood open I notice a rattling sound from what I think is the dizzy, long story short, I replaced dizzy, still has the rattle. Problem, I tighten the back bolt and the washer pinches the power wire going to dizzy (black/yellow), fries the 50A fuse link in fuse box under hood and the blue wire beside the power wire. So, I rewire the dizzy and replace the piece of burnt wire on harness, now getting code 8 and intermittent limp mode. Now sometimes when I hold the throttle at about 1750 rpm it will surge, only in that range though, if i let off or give it more it stops. I decide to check the tps as I hear a slight hiss from that area, I can set the idle to .5 but the wot will only go to 3.97 so now I guess I need a tps also. Okay, so maybe I killed that $150 dizzy, so I go to the junk yard and get another dizzy along with the tps. The tps turns out worse than mine, put mine back on, drove car to work today. As I got close to work I notice it seems like when I'm going along, the car acts like I let off the gas completely, then picks back up a couple of times then back to normal. So I make it to work replace the dizzy with the junkyard one,it idles and revs fine so I figure I'm good. I leave to go home and the surging got worse, and now it won't even idle, didn't throw the tdc code just the 02. So I guess my main concern is, could I have fried something in the ecu when that wire grounded out? I don't have access to another ecu to try, the only car close to mine at junkyard is a 91 civic sedan and it's manual not auto like this car. I'm still pretty much a honda noob, but tons more knowledgable than I was a month ago thanks to this forum, and don't really know if there's a way I can ohm some wires or pins to check the dizzy wires at the ecu. It's gonna sit here til at least monday no matter what cause I'm headin outta town tomorrow morning to do some work, I will of course research as much as I can btw now and then, but would appreciate any thoughts or theories from you guys. Thanks in advance for help.
Edit: I did set the valve clearances ( of which #1 ex and #2 In were off by .002 or so) and the rattle is not clangy but more like a marble rolling around type sound right behind the dizzy, it seems to get a little better as it warms up.
And this is the car I replaced the sock filter, fuel filter, and fuel tank on, the pump seems to run fine.
I just did a valve cover gasket also since #3 spark plug was full of oil.
