Default 1996 Honda Civic DX HELP! Car won't move

So last night while I was driving down the highway, My car decided to stop accelerating and just rev, Like it popped out of gear and I pulled on the side of the road, and it wouldn't move, it just revved. I put it in every gear I could and it just revved.

It was really easy to slide in gear, Maybe a tranny problem?

It sorta knocked when it turned on and made weird noises.

Can anyone help?

Check whether one of the axles has popped out of the differential. There should be only about ~1/8" gap between the inner CV joint and differential.

Also, before this happened there would be a winding clicking noise that would happen when I started it up, but as I drove it would go away.

And, when I was driving it seemed that my left front tire started wobbling a bit. Like it was hitting a lot of little bumps as I was going down the road.

How would I go about doing that? Mechanic? or is it something I can do? I'm pretty handy with cars and I have fixed mine before.

Raise front end on stands and inspect the axles, especially where they insert into the transmission. Post pictures.

The issue will probably be obvious when you inspect.

^ Listen to Ron. and with that info it sounds like the axles. my old chevy had something similar, but it was the axle seal that popped out due to the mechanic improperly installing it.

I went to Pep Boys a while ago, and they said I had torn boots, could that be part of the problem?

Did it also make weird noises when it was idling? Like grindy-ish noises?

its been awhile and its also a different make and model car, but when it idled it sounded whiny and had a clunking noise when i would accelerate. when the seal finally popped out my car wasn't able to go anywhere and just rev no matter what gear i was in like yours did, but again it was a chevy not a honda.
