Default d16y8 versus d16z6 - Which is best for tuning?

Question. Which engine would be the best one to use for tuning... I know its a single cam and that's what I'm looking for... Just having a hard time on choosing the right one... d16y8 or the d16z6?

What type of "tuning?"

Z6 is less prone to spin bearings though.

Z6. Better (read: more) oiling journals means better reliability under the stress of boost.

Considering the OP has told us exactly nothing about chassis, it doesn't really matter what OBD revision it is. There's adapters for damn near everything now.

^ pretty much as simple as that gets.

Y8 got 1 per journal, Z6 got 2. Of course you can send the Y8 crank out and fix that, but it's easier to just start with it.

depends on the chasis which would be more plug and play. swapping a z6 into a ek is alil harder to do then and eg. the dizzy either needs a conversion pnp harness or rig the y8 dizzy to fit. sometimes a 3-2 wire iacv is required. for emissions you would have to do more to pass using a obd2 ecu. or he could live in cali where it is illegal.... in for more info

^ Z6 swap into a EK is illegal either way.

Both engine have great potential. However, the D16z6 does have the most promise for engine builds. The first questions you should ask yourself are what are you power goals and budget. Hit me up with you need assistance with the right parts to make reliable power.

Well I have a 94 eg coupe and it already has the z6 in it. I was just curious on which one would be the smartest and best route to go... so now that, it would be better to stick with the z6 i just gotta figure out what I'll need. I really don't have a budget on the project and I will be happy with just 250-350 hp... not really sure where to really start... Ive bought a stage 4 clutch for the tranny... but this will be my 1st official build, and I wanna do it right.

Well I know as of right now I'm planning to getting a Walbro 255 fuel pump, Skunk2 cam gear, 600-750cc fuel injectors, throwing in a stage 4 clutch, 68mm throttle body, then a new exhaust kit. After that I will slap on a turbo... guess that's the plan for now, unless I hear of something better.

lol for about a month, then you'll want more.
Anything over about 200hp (~6psi) needs to be reinforced. Head studs, rods, pistons, block guard, sleeves. You should probably get them in that order if you can't afford them all at once. Don't forget to upgrade your brakes

Yeah your right, lol. Just kind of playing the game and we'll see how far I take it. Its my daily car and I don't wanna blow the engine in it... Would it be better to change it up as in a Y8 head and a Z6 block and tranny?
