P1259 VTEC System Malfunction Car will not start
Hi, I have a 2000 civic ex d16y8. I havent started the car in about a week. I wanted to start it up to pull it into the garage. The car did not start. I have a scan tool and check the codes. The vtec system malfunction. All the hoses are in and grounds are good (grounding kit). Car started last time i tried to start it about a week ago. I wanted to take my other car to work that is why I havent used the civic. any help well appriciated.
Got to give us a bit more info bud, a vtec malfunction doesnt cause any starting issues. Does it crank? Are you getting spark? When was the last time you changed plugs and wires?
I'll have to agree. never heard of a VTEC malfunction cause a car to not start. Is this a no crank or a crank and no start situation? Spark as mentioned above? If there is spark, what color is it? It should be bright white. Anything else and no start. Maybe something simple like a dead battery?
Checked spark, it is good. I've charged the battery with a battery charger. Still no start. It cranks but would not turn over. Fuel pump primes and checked fuses. THey are good. But I did hear a slight buzzing from the fuel pump relay area. I've sprayed starter fluid into the TB and it starts but dies within 2 seconds. Im assuming its a fuel problem. But why would it show a vtec code?
When i first swapped my GSR into my EK, running OBD1, I drove it 15 minutes to work, ran fine.. went to start it later and It did NOT want to start nor stay running. I got a code (can't remember which one), but it was for the vtec. Took the Pressure switch off and cleaned the little whole it it. Car ran perfect afterwards

the clips are in the same postion a week ago. I just never started it because i was driving my other car. So the clips did not get switched around. i'll try to send a pic.
I was just pointing out that clip 1 should have a Brn ground wire, not a Red one (see diagram).
Cylinders are ordered 4-3-2-1 as you go from the distributor to the timing belt.
And the injector clip power wire should be Yel/Blk for all.

i took a spark plug out when i was cranking and there was no gas in the cylinder. I thought I might have flooded the cylinder, but when i look in there was nothing in there. The fuel pump primes but the injectors are not getting grounded. And i just rechecked for spark and there is none now
it was the icm that was bad, i got a new distributor now. and i rented a noid light from the autozone. the light does blink when i crank the car. i think i might have flooded the cylinders because i took out all the spark plugs and they were wet with fuel. I just let the car sit overnight to let the fuel evaporate out. I'll let you know when i try to start it later today.
okay now i got fuel and spark.. but still not starting. Its been sitting now for about 2-3 weeks. Is there a way to build up the compression in the cylinders without flooded the cylinders again?
