j35a4 cylinder head problems
I have a 2002 odyssey with just about 200,000 mi. and I'm not sure about the service it has had in the past but I think it's pretty safe to assume that it didn't have the timing belt replaced for quite some time since it broke. Yea, bummer right. So I look all over the internet find this forum and have great expectations that the motor isn't trashed, could go either way right. Well after a new belt, Idler pully, tensioner pully, and water pump I'm into the job by my local shop for 875 when he tells me there is no compression in cylinders 4 and 6. So the shop tells me he can pull the heads and have them reworked for another 1200 and I'm thinking is this car really worth sticking that kind of money into, so I tow it home and figure I'll do it myself. Now my thoughts are why pull off both heads if the rear head is just fine, the shop said the compression on the three in the back were 175/175/180. I found a set of valves for 30 bucks/cyl assuming that both valves are bent in the bad cylinders. Now comes the task of removing the head. The last head I removed was on a chevy small block from the 90's, pretty straightforward compared to the 02 odessy, but none the less a machine is a machine and if you know where the bolts are and what order the parts go on and off how hard can it be for a mechanically inclined individule. So here goes the plee, does any one have the factory service manual the're willing to post with any good advice for me?
I have access to all Honda manuals at my dealership. The tricky part is posting the steps as it is so invoked. However, I have found on eBay that some people have found a way of downloading full manuals to a CD I the original linked .pdf form for around $20. This may be your best bet. I've done dosons of those heads and alike, however it's all in my head and would take hours to write it. A decent tech should have both heads off in about 3 hours.
