Icon2 does making a 1.5 non vtect into a vtec make a difference

I have a ej2 with 1.5 non vtec engine and a friend was telling me to make it vtec but I feel like it won't make much of a difference.
Some insight on this would be cool thanks

I've noticed a difference with my mini, you'll get more pull because in order to make it vtec you'll either be using a z6 head, y8 head, or a jdm head, which may be harder to get, which are alll 1.6 or above. Either way you'll see a little difference but nothing huge or major performance wise until it's actually tuned.

I did a mini-me swap four years ago. Just leave your car as it is. Most people can never get their mini-me swaps running right anyways. Can't even begin to tell you how many cars I see for sale after they are mini-me'd because it idles like **** or just runs a CEL all the time. I had a wicked idle surge I nor anyone else could really tackle down on mine.

If you want more reliable power with good gas mileage just do an LS swap. My B18 in my hatch still gets 32mpg and is fun to drive and decently quick. Night and day difference from a single slammer.

^ I can sooo relate with that. Haha. My Mini-me, I'm pretty sure, has a screwed up ECU because it throws random codes and clears them without my doing. Mini-me's are not easy to maintain. I'd agree with the LS swap, I'm going to work my way up to that eventually.

I havent really had any problems with my b7 y8 mini-me, it idles low but it did that before I swapped it. Just need to swap out the intake manifold. I noticed a huge difference in my car and as long as you get an adjustable cam gear and do the wiring correctly its fine.

Not really worth it imo. Save for the engine you want and drive this one til you get it.

Yet there is something to be said for doing a project just to do a project - I'm never against that. This one isn't too hard or expensive so I say go for it.

I traded my Z6 coupe for it and it is definitely a lot faster. My Z6 was getting 33-36mpg so I lost a little bit of fuel economy but it was worth it. ~160hp in a 2100lb car isn't too bad.

If he is wanting to swap at all I would still advise against it. The $2-300 you spend on a mini-me (or more if you're not very resourceful) could pay for nearly half of a longblock.

True, I agree, but if money is no issue and he wants a project...

Dont waste your time. Its easy work, but ive had nothing but problems ever since. The power isnt even noticeable. Change the tranny if you want a difference.
