VTEC-E and VTEC......?

Default VTEC-E and VTEC......?

Hello all, I have a civic 98 HX, it comes with vtec-e! I know that my car comes with 115hp and the EX comes with 127Hp

whats the difference between the normal vtec and the vtec-e?


theres any way to upgrade it to 127Hp just playing with the vtec?

Please help me out in this one, thanks

and no, the only way to get that extra power is to swap motors. Your tranny is the anti-speed.

i thought vtec was all in the head of the motor? swapping his head out for the y8 wouldn't do it. how is the tranny different?

VTEC E is honda's "economy" vtec. That motor comes with roller rockers and other strange things.

Im not sure about the trannys, but I dunno why you wouldnt be able to swap heads and gain the few hp difference that the EX has.

I have a 00 boosted HX and love it. Even though the HX is rated lower the head actually flows better and the valves open more in "vtec-e".

VTEC: below VTEC switchover both intake valves open part way, and after the switch, both intake valves open fully

VTEC-E: below the switchover one intake valve opens just a hair, and the other opens fully, after the switchover both intake valves open fully

However, there is a lot more to the two motors, such as ECUs and aformentioned transaxles

instead of optimising performance at high RPM, it was used to increase efficiency at low RPM. At low RPM, one of the two intake valves is only allowed to open a very small amount, increasing the fuel/air atomization in the cylinder and thus allowing a leaner mixture to be used. As the engine's speed increases, both valves are needed to supply sufficient mixture. A sliding pin, which is pressured by oil, as in the regular VTEC, is used to connect both valves together and allows the full opening of the second valve.

i should know because i drive a 98 hx as well.

yea i average 45 mpg. haha. and thats city and highway combined for me on a full tank.

Thats really true I'm about the same numbers.....loving it
