Default Transmission in Park wont release key

Howdy!

1990 Honda Accord EXR, Cold car, been outside all day. Car takes about 4-6 minutes to light up the park light on the dash and release the key from ignition.

In summer or in my heated garage never an issue.

Temp Sensor Perhaps?

Battery is new and Alternator is new. Only when Car drives in -10 c and colder will this happen. I park my car and have to sit there until Red Park light comes on and allows me to turn key back all the way to release. I can circumvent the process by turning key back one click and this shuts engine down but radio stays on so I have to remember to turn off all my accesories.

In warmer temps this never happens.

Th entire wiring bundle in the steering column is brand new. I had it replaced when my car randomly shut itself off. It was the ignition. Changed the wiring harness and problem solved.

This issue is directly related to Temperature. Its almost like the transmission will not slip into park until it warms up.

I would have the tranny flushed thru at one of those lube shops, they have a special pump for that, I had it done and watched oooze come out. Tell them HONDA fluid only, and NO additives. Call first , you may have to bring the fluid.

Had my Transmission flushed. Took about an hour. Mad a big difference in shift speed and acceleration. Still did not correct the issue with my transmission not releasing the key until park light came on.
