Default Immobilizer problem

Hi,
I have 97 prelude 5 speed and lately when i am driving it will turn itself off while going down the road and at lights etc. As soon as the car turns off the green key light will begin flashing and will continue to flash until i remove the key from the ignition and turn it back on and sometimes it will still continue to flash and the car will not start. It attempts to but as soon as it starts it dies.

Anyone know what it could be?

oh. i tried to get help on another forum.... but they deleted my thread -_-

That's an odd immobilizer problem. Since it could be your immobilizer, your key, your ignition, or just random wiring, I'd taken it to the Honda dealership so that they can run diagnostics on it.

Have you done anything recently to the car? If so, start there. If you have another key, does it happen with both?

This is interesting are you sure its not just your alternator? does your battery light come on at all? you can always take your car to an advance auto and have a free electrical check done. its limited to your starter alternator and battery and they also do parasitic drain as well. hope that helps

This is a classic ignition switch problem. See if the recall has been done. Even if it has been the ignition switch still needs to be replaced.

Yeah thats a recall honda issued out september 17, 2002 for a few of late 90 hondas. its when the ignition switch contacts wear out from constant high current and suddenly stalls your car. you should be able to get it replaced for free at a honda dealer because its not safe if not u can call the honda line they gave in the recall: 1-800-999-1009.

Vinuneuro and Hduecedeuce
Excellent answers for a very tricky problem
plus giving the Honda 800 number makes the solution easy
Big Thanks to both of you
