Default 1993-1995 AC compressor compatability

My 1993 Civic DX 1.5 has an AC compressor but was told by my mechanic that the compressor was bad (piston wasn't pumping)

There is a 1995 Civic 1.5 at the junkyard and the AC compressor looks brand new! It has R134 freon in the system.

I was wondering if it would work in my 1993 Civic 1.5.

I ask this question because the person at the junkyard looked it up on their computer and said it wouldn't work...

If you want to know how I figured out the compatibility:

It would depend primarily whatever refrigerant you have in your system. Some 93 are R134a however the majority were R12, so the compressor lines are different. Basically 94-00 are all R-134a.

It doesn't matter where it was manufactured at?

Mine was manufactured in Honda of Canada, there was one that said Honda of Japan and one that was Honda of America.

Thank you and happy Thanksgiving.

In the case of the AC it would depend on whether or not you had R12 or R134A in the lines. IE a R134a compressor is NOT the same as an R12 compressor other than its purpose

Junkyard dude is right. 95 is for R134a, your 93 is *probably* R12.

Im in the process of looking for a 94 to 00 D series compressor and lines. I want to goto the cabin filter and since my R12 compressor appears to be leaking I figure this is a good time to do the cabin filter retrofit.
