Default Can you fix this?? CHeap? ideas! :D

My exhaust near the muffler has apparently
rusted off
fallen off
broken off
something.

its only being held on by the rubber mounts on the muffler.

I honestly don't have the money to replace it unless its $20

The rest of the muffler seems okay, at least I think. So I'm trying to brainstorm some ideas to fix this temporarily for now.

Some ideas I've come up with. G-G-G GHETTO FIX IT.

1. TONS OF EXHAUST WRAP AS A GIANT BANDAGE!

2. Remove that flange, spring, screw, get a larger diameter temp pipe place around outside of both tighten.

3. Just run without a muffler. It sounds kind of nice, its not loud, not really. Nice deeper tone, its still pretty quiet under normal driving, there's just a drone while there's a load.

Let me know of some ghetto ideas that you come up with! :D

I'm not sure I completely understand how it works. I mean I think I do, it simply just well, acts as a flange and I use new bolts to hold it together from the missing side to the existing one I still have on the muffler side.

Is that it?

Or am I thinking of it completely in the wrong way?

Just get a coupler and then put a exhaust bracket on each side

I bet an exhaust shop could weld that buck up for you if the metal is still decent for 40-60 bucks too

I got one of the bolts off on the muffler side, but the bolt on the far end that you can't see in the picture has a nut that's not even a nut anymore, its looks like it melted and turned into one piece. Its being damn stubborn. I don't really have any cutting tools that can get through it.

I do have a little dremel that might be able to finicky around it somehow.

I went out to find a split flange,

Autozone - None none adjustable one that's the wrong size.

Advance Auto - None Guy there barely spoke english, and the younger guy and girl were talking about who has a crush on who and calling some friends on the phone to get together next weekend and hardly working.

O'reilly Auto - Waited at the counter forever as this old guy tries to find a part for another customer, employee looks at his computer like its the most foreign object that's he's ever laid his eyes on. Finally another worker shows up, and I ask questions about it, their response.

"what's a split flange? I've never heard of it, hey (forget name lets pretend its ROSCOE because this is TEXAS) Ya'll ever heard of dis dem dar splinch flange?"

"Foe wha? Wazzit foe?"

An Exhaust, or piping, any piping

"I dun noe dem dar split flanges, we dun carry none".

So, I guess I'll look some up online. For the meantime, I'm just going to come up with whatever so it doesn't just hang there.

maybe scour ebays? I think some local shops want mom and pop exhaust for like $200. Not sure if that's installed. Maybe just but some generic one at a local shop, but craftsmanship is suspect to me for so and so brand.

All these local autozone's, advance auto's, and rielly's all have universal mufflers, but I've honestly never tried any of these before.

To be honest, I thought the sound of my CR-V without any muffler was actually kind of okay. It has a low tone while accelerating, but at idle, its quiet, and no real drone at all. I'm still thinking about just running no muffler at all. I don't know any other downsides of running no muff except for a tad more noise.

Only split flange I found was this different brand not the ROL one, but it doesn't have screws on the sides to adjust size or tightness, it just says 2" - 2 1/4 size. I think that's the size of the CR-V so it should fit too?

Until I do, my ghetto fix is that's its being held up by zip ties.
that's right zip ties, colorful bright colored ones. So its not just dangling on its rubber mounts. The ghettoness is just oozing.

Maybe the muffler shops have a split flange they sell. Since the local auto parts store disappointingly don't have them in stock, and don't even know what the are for.

Sorry I mean what they are "foe".

Should work. If you have access to a welder just get a regular flange that's slightly bigger than the piping and weld it on

Let me know what you end up doing, as I had the exact same thing happen to my '00 the other week. I'm tempted to just start replacing the system, but if I can jerry-rig something so my V doesn't sound fart-tastic, that'd be great.

LMFAO!! Hey my exhaust broke off exactly like that and all I did as a bandaide was use some exhaust clamp and clamped a straight pipe along with an exhaust tip that pointed downward onto it. It sounds like I have a performance exhaust on now, but it's not too loud to the point where I'm annoyed. I think I'm going to try and find that adjustable split flange and go that route.
