there is such a thing like in the 1999 and 2000 civic si.. and a b20vtec is a b20 motor with a vtec head..

 

Unless heads/blocks were mismatched, he's all wrong.
IIRC (I could be wrong though)
B20's were always non-VTEC. B20B, B20Z, maybe others
B16's were always VTEC. B16A, B16B, B16, JDM/USDM ones etc;

 

Is he stating that hes using the stock head but afternarket cams or maybe moved the b16 head onto the b20 and the b20 head onto the b16? Sounds crazy but its possible

I know this i dont even know the owner its my friends friend but my friend says he claims it with all his heart to be a b20 vtec i dont really know i havent seen it.

B16's are vtec.

I honestly wouldn't be suprised if he has a non vtec head on a b16 block. There are a lot of dumbasses that have Honda's.

 

There's a really simple way to "prove him wrong" without a thread, especially considering that we know absolutely nothing about your friend's car. Open your friend's hood, and find the VTEC solenoid. Tell him what it is, point, and laugh.

Assuming it's a stock 99-00 USDM SI, it has a B16A2. That is a VTEC motor, period.
